Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade -

Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: See below

Memorial Day ceremony lead by the Byram VFW will be held at the Byram Veterans Memorial in front of the Roseville School House on Mansfield Drive on Memorial Day, May 29th at 10:00 a.m. There will be a brief ceremony honoring those veterans who have passed away. Following the ceremony, the crowd moves on to join the Byram Township Fire Department parade. The parade begins at the Byram Township Fire House and travels north on Route 206, ending at the Cranberry Lake Clubhouse and beach.

Second Saturday (and One First Saturday) Hikes - 05/13/2017 - 10/14/2017

Date: Saturday, May 13, 2017
Ends: Saturday, October 14, 2017
Time: usually 9:00 am, but start times change
Location: various locations

Hikes are designed for families or individuals looking to enjoy nature, get some fresh air and exercise in the beautiful outdoors. Trails are well marked, so faster hikers may move out ahead and slower walkers may take their time and enjoy the scenery. All hikers should wear appropriate footwear, no sandals or open toed shoes. Dress for the weather. Bring water and a snack.

Many of the trails have geocaches hidden along the path. Download a geocache app onto your phone and track the hidden treasures. Bring along a few small tokens to exchange for tokens left in the geocaches.

Check byramtwp.org Trails for trail descriptions, pictures or GPS coordinates.

Download May My Fitness, Endomondo or any number of fitness apps and track your walk in the woods. Measure distances, calories burned, altitude (or attitude) adjustments created by the hike.

 

Sat May 13 Tamarack Park Opening Day - Tamarack Trail. Enjoy the celebration of opening a new park and trail. Free hot dogs and hamburgers plus activities at the end of the hike.

  • Start anytime between 10:00 am - 11:30 am
  • Easy/moderate difficulty
  • Approximately 1.6 miles
  • Start location: Parking lots at CO Johnson Park. Register at the trailhead on Roseville Rd. Take the shuttle bus back to CO Johnson Park or walk back on your own

Sat June 3 National Trails Day Hike - Sussex Branch Trail. Check out the spring flowers and see if the beavers have been busy. 

  • Start time 9:00 am
  • Relatively flat and easy terrain. All-terrain strollers are welcome
  • Approximately 1.5 - 2 miles out and the same distance back. May park a 2nd car at the Byram Park and Ride for a shorter hike
  • Start location: Sussex Branch Parking lot on Waterloo Road across from Continental Drive

Sat July 8 Independence Hike - Jefferson Glen Bike Path - Celebrate our early presidents and America's Independence. It's a red, white and blue kind of week.

  • Start time 9:00 am 
  • Easy/Moderate difficulty
  • 2 miles out and 2 miles back
  • Start location: Take Hi-Glen Drive across from Shoprite all the way to the end (road name changes to Louis, then Drexel). Park in the cul-de-sac at the end of Drexel Dr.

Sat August 12 Summer Heat Hike - Cat Swamp Connector, Jefferson Glen, Sussex Branch and Cat Swamp. Hangin' with the Cool Cats in the Swamp. If you don't have cat ears, wear bright sun orange. Bring your cat-like reflexes to climb over the rocks.

  • Start time 9:00 am 
  • Moderate difficulty
  • Approximately 3-mile loop
  • Start location: Back parking lot of Salt Gastropub

Sat September 9 Byram Day Walk/Run - Mansfield Bike Path - Walk or run and enjoy the festival afterwards. Check out food vendors, free inflatable rides, touch-a-truck, demonstrations and music at the festival. Look for Mario Brothers at this event.

  • 10:15 am start 9:30 - 10:00 am registration
  • Easy/moderate terrain. All-terrain strollers are welcome
  • Approximately 3 miles (5K) 
  • Start location: Park at the Byram Schools Parking lot. Walk to Neil Gylling Park for registration

Sat October 14 Fall Foliage Hike - Cranberry Overlook and Tamarack Trails - Check out the fall foliage as you look down over Cranberry Lake towards the Delaware Water Gap. Hike Tamarack Trail to the Johnson Lake Dam then cross Tamarack Rd to enter Cranberry Overlook Trail. Bring your camera for scenery shots. 

  • Start time 9:00 am
  • Moderate/difficult terrain
  • 1.6 miles up and 1.6 miles back
  • Start location: Tamarack Park parking lot.

Town Wide Garage Sale - 06/03/2017 - 06/04/2017

Check the NJ Herald for the advertisement of Byram's 11th Annual Town Wide Garage Sale!  A list of participating houses will be available at Town Hall on Friday afternoon June 2 after 2:00 pm or Saturday morning, June 5th.  The address list will also be available online on the Township website on Friday afternoon after 2:00 pm. All participating houses will be flying blue Byram balloons in front of their houses for easy identification.

To sign up for the Town Wide Garage Sale, download a registration form from the Parks and Recreation page, fill it out and take it to the Recreation Office in Town Hall.  You will receive a piece of poster paper to advertise your sale and some balloons to hang in front of your house on the weekend of the event.  The cost is $5.00 per family payable to Byram Recreation. 

Can't get to Town Hall during working hours? To register online go to:

'Recreation Programs’ from the drop-down menu.  Once there, click on the URL link for “Online Recreation Program Registration”. (Note, you end up doing this twice). Once you are on the new web page for Online Registration you need to log in (create a new account if necessary). Then after you are logged in, go to the top and select ‘Search and Shop’, then select ‘Activities’ from the drop-down menu.  Afterwards, you select the criteria for your search, locate the program to register for and click through which household members are being registered and fill out payment information when checking out. Note: you must know your bank routeing number for EFT payments.

 Or Mail the registration form and check to:

Byram Recreation, 10 Mansfield Drive, Byram, NJ 07874.  If you can't stop by the Recreation Office, you will have to make your own posters as they cannot be mailed out.

Families may work together to promote a multi-family sale, but just one address will be listed.  Garage salers may put up additional signs, but all signs must be removed by Sunday evening, June 4.

When: Wednesday, June 7 Contestants arrive at 6 pm, Contest begins at 6:30 pm. Rehearsal on Monday, June 5 at 6:30 pm in the Byram Intermediate School APR.

Eligibility:Miss and Mister Byram - Ages 17 - 21 as of August 1, 2017 who are single and bonafide residents of Byram

Junior Miss And Mister Byram - Ages 13 - 16 years as of August 1, 2017, who are residents of Byram

Young Miss and Mister Byram - Ages 8 - 12 as of August 1, 2017, who are residents of Byram

Little Miss and Mister Byram - Ages 4 - 7 as of August 1, 2017, who are residents of Byram

Selection: The criteria to select the winners includes:

* The Royalty Court will be honored at Byram Day on Saturday, September 9 and should make every effort to attend. Additional opportunities for community involvement will be available throughout the year.

*Additionally, the Royalty Court winners will have the opportunity to represent Byram Township at the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show in August, where additional awards are available.

Reception: Immediately following the program, there will be a small reception honoring the candidates.

Completed applications must be returned on or before June 1 . Applicants for Miss or Mister Byram must include one (1) head shot photo (no bigger than 4”x6”) to:

Kids Tri Harder Triathlon - 06/24/2017

Date: Saturday, June 24, 2017
Time: 8:30 am - 12:00 noon
Location: Lake Lackawanna

Swim, Bike and Run.  Everyone is a winner!  $15 per child ages 4 - 14. All children must be accompanied by a parent.  Participants must be pre-registered to compete.  Wear a swimsuit and sunscreen; bring goggles, towel, socks, sneakers, bike, helmet, and hand towel to clean feet after the swim.  Ages 4 - 6 may wear swim aids and may have training wheels on bikes.

Parking is available for participants and families in the grass lot on the corner of Richmond & Heminover.  Walk across the dam to the beach area.

Participant medals to all, no individual awards.  Times and distances are not certified. This is a recreational event.
