Programs for Parents and Toddlers
Location: Panther Lake Pool, Panther Lake Camping Resort
Cost: $25 for Byram Residents, $35 for Non-Byram residents

Parent and Child Swim Lessons
Parent and Child classes are for children ages 6 months - 3 years old. Parents must swim with their child. Children who are not completely potty trained must wear "swim" pants. No floatation devices are permitted. Please bring a favorite water toy.
Lessons are held daily, Monday - Friday at 10:30 - 10:55. Classes are cancelled for thunder storms and rain. Raindays are not rescheduled, but classes may be held in gentle showers as the participants are already wet. Check the Recreation program hotline 973-347-2500 X 444 on the morning of the class to see if classes have been cancelled.

Preschool Programs
Location: Byram Lakes Elementary School Parking Lot
Cost: $25.00
Length of Program: 4 Wednesdays May 16 - June 6

Children 2 - 8 years old ride through 3 different "race" courses practicing driving skills in their own Power Wheel vehicle. Parents bring their child and their personal Power Wheels vehicle to Byram Lakes Elementary School parking lot where they will be given a "race car number" to put on the side of their vehicle. Children will then have the opportunity to drive each of the 3 courses and be timed. The first week will just be a practice, with no times recorded. The next 3 weeks, times will be recorded so that children can strive to improve their times each week. Everyone wins a medal.
Parents participate as "Race officials" such as starters, finish line officials,timers, recorders, lane guidance and traffic direction, etc.
Volunteers are needed to make this event successful. If you would like to help, please contact the Recreation Department.

Cost: $70 per week
Length of Program: Monday - Thursday 8:30 am - 12:00 noon
Lenape Summer Camp for 4 and 5 year olds will be held Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am - 12:00 noon at Stanhope's Valley Road School for three weeks from July 9 - July 26 and at Netcong School for 3 weeks from July 30 -August 16.
Children may arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 am and may be picked up between 11:30 and 12:00 noon. Camp Lenape provides for the social, mental and physical growth of children in a safe and fun environment. Kids will engage in organized activities with their peers under the guidance of certified teachers and college age counselors. On Tuesday through Thursday teachers lead daily hands-on activities including music, art, theatre arts, science and the environment, and health and wellness activities. Games are played throughout the day. Mondays are a special activity or trip related to the week's theme. Each week is a mini-camp unto itself with a theme and activities coordinated around the theme. Children who sign up for the Olympic Games week should bring a bike, trike, or other non-motorized riding toy and a helmet on Monday.

Parents of 4 and 5 year olds are invited to participate with their children on Monday trip/special event for a cost of $10 per parent and must sign up at registration. Parents of campers who would would like to bring their child on the Friday Trip with the older children may do so on a space available basis for a cost of $40 per child and $45 per parent. Check the schedule of Friday trips on the Youth section of the website. Bus space may or may not be available for trips on either Monday or Friday.
As much of Camp Lenape is held in an outdoor environment, and includes many physical activities, children should wear shorts and shirts and athletic shoes with tie laces. Sandals or open toe shoes are dangerous to wear while playing in the park and therefore not acceptable at camp. Parents may want to apply sun screen to their child at the beginning of the day. Children should bring a snack in a bag, lunchbox or other container clearly labeled with their name. Children may bring a water bottle, but may not bring electronic devices to camp.
A Handbook for Parents with trip permission slips and other useful information will be distributed at the beginning of each week.
Youth Programs

Youth Tennis Lessons
Ages 6 - 12. Learn tennis basics or improve on skills. Grips, footwork, groundstrokes, volleys and games. Please wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothing. Bring a racket and water. Balls will be supplied by the instructor. Lessons will be held Mon - Thurs, June 18 - June 28. Rain dates are scheduled on Fri June 22 and June 29.

Camp Lenape
Camp Lenape is a summer camp being offered through the collabrative efforts of Byram, Stanhope, and Netcong Recreation Committees and Netcong and Stanhope Boards of Education. It is designed to provide the children of those communities the opportunity to have a quality summer camp experience and to make friends from the neighboring towns. Campers from towns other than Byram, Stanhope or Netcong need to add $20 onto the weekly fee. The first 3 weeks of camp, July 9 - July 27 will be held at Stanhope's Valley Road School. The second 3 weeks of camp, from July 30 - August 17 will be held at Netcong School.

Monday mornings include a special event, guest speaker or 1/2 day trip. Parents are welcome to join their child on the Monday trips/events for a fee of $10, and must register in advance. Bus transportation may or may not be available.
On Monday afternoons campers go swimming at Hackettstown Pool. Parents are welcome to join their child for swimming for a fee of $10, and must register in advance. Bus transportation may or may not be available. (Parents may also meet the group at the pool and pay their own admission ($7).
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are held in the school and students rotate from one activity to another. Activities include Art, Music, Science Exploration, Health and Wellness, Theater and Games and Outdoor Activities. Activities are based on the theme for the week.
Fridays are a full day trip. Parents are welcome on the Friday trip for a fee of $45. All non-camp trip participants must register by the Monday of the week of the trip. Bus transportation may or may not be available.
Week 1 July 9—13 Stanhope Olympic Games Get a preview of the summer and winter Olympic games. Try team skating, biking and swimming. Show your athletic ability playing soccer or cricket. Create flags and design banners for your country and pre-pare for the games. Songs and traditional music from the competing countries. Mon am: Trans Options Bike Rodeo—Bring your bike and helmet Fri Trip: Dorney Park Week 2 July 16—20 Stanhope Across the Universe Design your own little astronomical world including, folklore, science fiction and lots of imagination. Learn scientific facts, folktales and myths about our solar system and constellations. Make a stargazer and balloon powered “moon rovers” Design a rocket ship for an egg astronaut and launch it. Hear what the Beatles had to say about “Across the Universe”. Mon am: CCM’s Longo Planetarium Fri trip: American Museum of Natural History, Journey to the Stars at the Rose Planetarium Week 3 July 23—27 Stanhope The Nutty Professor For children who love to whip up potions, concoctions and other marvelous mixtures, invent and play their own goofy games, or test out ideas with science experiments. Fizz popping paints, sidewalk chalk, and giant bubble brew. Build Lego cities and contraptions. Mon am : Professor Super Science Fri Trip: Thomas Edison National Historical Park and Turtleback Zoo Week 4 July 30—Aug 3 Netcong Eco-Earth Friends Be green and create art. Learn traditional crafts and take care of plants at the same time! Transform recyclables/tossables and art materials into amazing masterpieces. Make homemade paper, bird feeders and wacky found object sculptures. Check out critters and creatures. For children with a love for all outdoors, who love to use their hands to create cool and useful one-of-a-kind art objects.

Week 5 Aug 3—10 Netcong Under the Sea (Water) Dive into the realm of all things aquatic, both real and imagined! Build your own sand castle, make wave bottles with sea creatures. Hear stories of sea monsters, mermaids and lost undersea worlds. Experiment with water-colors, explore sea shells and create your own expressions of underwater life. Join us for time in the “Yellow Submarine”.

Week 6 Aug 13—17 Netcong Walk Like an Egyptian Ancient history, archeology, adventure and art. Wrap a mummy and build a sarcophagus, make modern day papyrus and write in hieroglyphics. Hear the stories of Egyptian gods and goddesses, King Tut, Queen Nefertiti and Cleopatra. Uncover treasures on a mock archaeological dig and design a pyramid fit for a king! For all Indiana Jones wannabe’s.

Youth Swim Lessons
Children must be 5 years old or older to enter levels. Children are not expected to move from one level to the next until they have had several weeks of lessons at that particular level. If registering for more than one session, please register for the same level and instructors will make changes as necessary. Levels indicated show skills that must be MASTERED to ENTER that level. Classes may be cancelled due to thunderstorms or rain. There will be no make up for cancelled classes, but classes may be held in gentle showers as the children are already wet. Call the Recreation hotline at 973-347-2500 X 160 the morning of the class to see if it has been cancelled.
Lessons are held daily, Monday - Friday. Each level has it's own desinated time. To enter a level, refer to the levels listed below. Please note that the skills listed next to a level must be MASTERED to ENTER that level.
Level 1: New Swimmer
Level 2: Primary Skills: blow bubbles with face in water, kick and glide in prone and back positions while floating.
Level 3: Stroke Readiness: swim crawl stroke on stomach; kick and fin or back crawl for 5 yards
Level 4: Stroke Development: front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl & breaststoke, each for 10 yards
Level 5: Stroke Refinement: crawl with rotary breathing and back crawl each for 25 yards; breastroke and sidestroke for 15 yards
Level 6: Skill proficiency: front and back crawl for 50 yards, Breaststroke and sidestroke for 25 yards.

Tween and Teen Programs

Grades 10 - college and adults are welcome to come and perform or just listen to bands, small groups and individuals perfoming music, poetry or other art forms on the 3rd Friday night of the month in a drug, alcohol and tobacco free environment. Adult Programs and Fitness Activities
Location: Byram Municipal Building Courtroom

Quilting
Bring your own sewing machine and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow quilters. Projects are selected at previous months meeting. Project supply lists are available from facilitator after registration. 4th Monday of the month and usually 3rd Saturday of the month.

Bike Right Bike Rides
We meet on Tues and Fri evenings at 5:30 pm. Tuesdays are road rides and Fridays are trail rides. We meet at at different start points, usually along the Sussex Branch or Paulinskill Rail Trails for the trail rides and different parking lots for the road rides. Thus you may choose to ride both roads and trails, or just one or the other. You may choose to ride on Tues or Fri, or both depending upon whether you feel like riding the road or a trail. Email addresses are required as changing starting points will be broadcast via email. All participants are required to wear a helment and closed footwear (no flipflops or sandals). Water is recommended. Rides are planned by leaders/members of the group.
