Mayors Wellness campaign
Posted: January 04, 2010
Dear Byram Residents,
Obesity and inactive lifestyles have become a lot like the weather, everyone talks about them, but little action is taken. As Mayor of Byram, I have decided to talk less and do more when it comes to these national killers and wanted to share a new effort in our town.
Recently, Byram joined New Jersey’s Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC) as a first step to getting our town on the road to active living and healthier lifestyles.
The MWC supports Mayors as champions of community health. The goal is to increase opportunities for Byram residents to participate in physical activity with a long-term goal of improving health, reducing deaths and the health care costs secondary to obesity. Through public-private partnerships, the MWC provides structure and resources for healthy community initiatives.
The MWC encourages Mayors to play a leadership role in supporting local opportunities for active, healthy lifestyles. I have taken them up on that challenge.
I invite all of Byram citizens to join me in learning more about this worthwhile effort by going to www.mayorswellnesscampaign.org and taking part in one of the many events we have planned in the coming weeks and months.
We can make a real difference in the lives of all Byram residents if we just stop talking about it and start doing something!
Sincerely,
James Oscovitch
Mayor, Byram Township
